Aeyesafe-AI senior safety monitoring system

About

Aeyesafe is an AI-powered monitoring system created to elevate senior safety. The core objective of this project is to design a resident dashboard that enables caregivers to intuitively understand seniors' health conditions. With access to multiple data sources and information, caregivers can swiftly take action, preventing accidents and ensuring the seniors' long-term well-being.

Context

Aeyesafe equips caregivers with sensors for 24/7 monitoring and Real-time alerts.

Aeyesafe installs sensors in nursing homes that monitor seniors' health, triggering over 30 alerts. These alerts enable caregivers to swiftly respond to emergencies and track long-term health trends.

Overburdened caregivers struggle to provide personalized care for diverse seniors

Caregivers, already sparse in the elderly care sector, often manage 20-30 seniors. The demanding nature of their job, combined with the challenge of remembering individualized information for each diverse senior, leads to less tailored care. This strain may cause caregivers to overlook emergencies or subtle shifts in elderly behaviors.

Problem Statement

Caregivers experience frustration due to scattered essential information on residents

Based on our research team's findings, a significant number of complaints arise from caregivers spending excessive time browsing the entire site to locate pertinent information. This inefficiency obstructs timely comprehension and response to residents' immediate needs, making long-term health monitoring daunting.

Solution

Redesign the residents' pages to enhance usability and streamline resident services, thereby reducing complaints.

Developed a unit-centric resident profile page, where caregivers can access comprehensive information for each resident, including live data insights and historical data. This design provides a quick and efficient overview of a resident's health, enabling caregivers to promptly take action.

Research

Step 1

Main Goal

Understand the daily process and conditions of deep caregiving

We conducted comprehensive 60-minute interviews with caregiver experts from five different nursing homes, delving deep into their workflows and identifying prevalent pain points in their daily operations.

Step 2

Define Priority

To gauge the significance of these various types of information, I collaborated with caregivers to construct a matrix based on 'Urgency of Information' and 'Frequency of Use' to delineate their relative importance.

Step 3

Define Problem

Unclear IA hinders efficient elderly care

Upon integrating this caring process into our existing product site map, it became apparent that users were required to continually toggle between different pages, a process that not only consumed precious time but also induced significant user frustration.

How might we create a unit-centric resident page that streamlines access to vital information, enabling caregivers to respond swiftly to alerts and personalize care?

Design & Iteration

Usability Test

We ensure the dashboard design is based on solid foundations through much testing with current and prospective users. Supported by senior-care experts with experience with different tools, we conducted usability tests with more than 10+ users during the process.

Iteration A
Enhanced font style, size, and layout for clearer visibility of live insights.

Before

"We usually need to monitor several screens at the same time, and small characters make it difficult for me to see the information."

After

"I like this new arrangement, with a thicker and larger font that allows me to stand and see clearly from a distance."

Iteration B
Expanded space to view and analyze chart details more thoroughly.

Before

"The small and dense text made it quite strenuous for me to extract the information I needed, leaving me feeling anxious and fatigued.“

After

“Now, accessing the vital information feels much smoother, even if I occasionally have to scroll down to view the charts.”

Final Design

Feature 01

Live Comprehensive Insights at a Glance

Quickly find all critical and urgent information on one easy-to-navigate page

Feature 02

Location Reports

Experience intuitive and multi-faceted charts that empower caregivers to accurately assess the health status of seniors.

Feature 03

Alert History Overview

Quickly review past alerts to assess recent conditions and determine necessary actions.

Feature 04

Doctor's Notes

Usability Test

From 6 Min to 2 Min, Boosting efficiency by 67%🚀🚀🚀

The final test with our group of 10 users revealed that the time required to gather information and check the status of a single patient decreased from 6 minutes to 2 minutes. This significantly reduced the burden of health information collection and status monitoring for the care team. It has also enhanced our caregivers' ability to gather information, make diagnoses, and take action, improving their efficiency by 67%.

Takeaways

Reflecting on User-Centric Evolution

In this project, the continual engagement with users - the caregivers, transformed from a mere process into a pivotal strategy. This approach fostered a solution deeply rooted in the daily realities and needs of caregivers, embodying a fluid journey of adaptation and alignment.
