As a Product Designer Intern, I oversaw aspects related to data analysis, user research, user flow, wireframes, Hi-Fi user interface design, prototyping, and so on. Additionally, I established a good cooperative relationship with the operation team and the technical team to conduct research and give insight into feasibility and details of the design.
The platform is a subtitle simultaneous interpreting tool that has only been released for two months. I was tasked to iterate it based on the basic functions, mining the user pain points and outputting solutions. After this new version was launched, DAU and GMV increased by 143% and 132% respectively.

In such scenes as watching video, listening to audio, and online conference communication, this platform can help users pick up computer sounds, generate simultaneous interpreting bilingual subtitles in real time, and assist cross language information acquisition and communication.

This platform meets the basic needs of individual users for subtitle simultaneous interpretation. However, when it is applied to continuous learning and work scenarios, the retention rate of users declined when they cannot find more use value from our product. We also need to consider providing better viewing experience as well as providing corresponding auxiliary functions at different usage stages.
How might we improve the user experience that increase the flexibility of use, optimize the browsing experience, and broaden the service scene?
To get to know user’s virtual show experience, my team conducted 25 in-depth interviews. The questions provided a framework for our research, competitive analysis, and user testings
To sum up my findings from user research, I have concluded the major Pain Points we found that users experienced in our platform.
On the current platform, the default subtitles style is no different from zoom or YouTube. Users cannot get a better viewing experience here, which leads them to return to the original platform.
In the learning or working scenario, the subtitle box that cannot be adjusted in position and size often blocks or be blocked by multiple software and file windows.
The missing of some functional capabilities lead user to jump into other platforms. For example, users have a high demand for subtitle settings, subtitle export, voice review, and note taking.

With a Google Survey method targeting 43 active users and 84 international Students, we could identify user preferences and understand key factors to consider before launching the service. (Each questionnaire allowed multiple-choice answers.)

To develop new functions and attract clicks for operational activities, instructive icons and text prompts are added to the subtitle box to help users quickly find the entrance to core functions.
In order to obtain a comfortable viewing experience, users can drag the subtitle box to adjust the shape and size to find a suitable ratio for themselves.
Subtitle setting function provides users with adjustment rights in multiple dimensions such as language settings, number of lines, substrate color, and text color.
Users can select the simultaneous interpretation clips here and export them with one click. Users can also click the "Rewrite" icon to rename the simultaneous interpretation segment.
In order to efficiently manage text segments, users can select multiple checkboxes to export the simultaneous interpretation content in batches at one time.

Our team experimented with the most efficient ways of layout the top functionalities, based on the user’s usage habits. We ran a A/B testing on the top bar and subtitle box to discover which option users prefer the most: well-arranged settings form and concise toolbar.
To improve the viewing experience of users zooming in and out of subtitle boxes, we set the maximum and minimum values of subtitle boxes and the interval limit between each element according to different screen sizes and the number of subtitle lines to avoid experience loopholes in various extreme situations.
This challenging internship taught me how to prioritize features and empathize with users under time constraints. I loved the opportunity to participate in early product cycle and putting the user’s voice first.
Instead of creating pixel-perfect interface, Instead of creating a beautiful interface, I learned to build UI/ux change strategies in different scenarios and communicate with front-end programmers to implement them.
